Baby's First Crochet GownCrochet Your Own

I was inspired by the Diaper Cover and the Little Sweetie Dress. I thought to myself, "What would happen if I brought two concepts together to create a unique gown for a baby? Could the idea work and could it be affordable?"

To not take away from the creativity of the Little Sweetie Dress designer, I am going to give you the free pattern for the Little Sweetie Dress. She is responsible for figuring out the math associated to doing the neck to the waist of the dress. I am responsible for changing the waist down to the bottom, sleeves and collar.

The meshing takes a while, I am not going to deny that. If you want something more extravagant, you have to spend the time to work on it to get it to look amazing. This is one of those projects where the time is definitely worth it.

This pattern will work in two parts:

  • I'm going to give you a link to the Little Sweetie Dress. You can choose 1 of 4 different sizes to complete. 6, 12, 18 or 24 month sizes. Complete the Little Sweetie Dress all the way to the start of the skirt again.
  • Once you get to the skirt, come back to this pattern here to complete the instructions for the rest of this dress. The skirt, collar and sleeves are different.

Materials

  1. 2 Skeins of Red Heart Gumdrop for the 6 - 12 month sizes. 3 Skeins for the 18 - 24 month sizes.
  2. 2 Skeins of Red Heart Sashay Mini for the 6 - 12 month sizes, 3 Skeins for 18 - 24 month sizes.
  3. 1 Skien using very little of Red Heart Soft Baby Steps for collar and sleeve trim work.

Free Diaper Cover Crochet Pattern with Optional RufflesRuffle Options Included

Introducing a basic diaper cover pattern. I say this is basic as the design is exceptionally easy to follow with giving options of versatility for any crocheter. Though this pattern has been marketed for girls, you can make this identical pattern for boys with leaving off the Sashay ruffles that the pattern calls for.

This pattern uses Red Heart With Love but in my tutorial I used Red Heart Super Saver. For my version, I used Red Heart Boutique Sashay Sparkle for my ruffles.

This pattern has been designed in 3 sizes such as 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. The tutorial will show you how to construct the 3 month size but I will take you through the pattern and help all sizes as the concepts such as ruffling is identical.

Crochet Pleated Little Sweetie DressJust Add Pleats

Introducing the Little Sweetie Dress. Due to extreme demand from our audience, many have asked for this dress to have more draping or pleats at the bottom instead of just being straight down. I have taken the liberty to change 1 line in the pattern which alters the skirt area. It makes the skirt 3 times more stitches on one layer. Once you complete the line, the rest of the pattern can easily followed.

Get the Little Sweetie Dress Pattern.

Just be forewarned that you will use 3 times the amount of yarn to complete the skirt area.

This is what the pattern says at the Skirt Area:

Round 2 (Right Side): Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1 here and throughout), dc in first st (beginning V-st made), skip next dc, *V-st in next dc, skip next dc; repeat from * around; join with slip st in 3rd ch of beginning ch—35 (37, 41, 43) V-sts.

Change it to this to get the pleats:

Round 2 (Right Side): Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1 here and throughout), dc in first st (beginning V-st made), *V-st twice in the next st, V-st in next dc, repeat from * around; join with slip st in 3rd ch of beginning ch V-sts.

This change will cause the v-stitches to multiple 3 times. When moving up into the next round. You will operate in the v-stitches as it states. The only change from hereon in is that the number of v-stitches around has been changed. You will not add any extra stitches and operate the pattern as normal. This will not affect the length of your skirt.

Crochet Baby Socks Free PatternNo Slip Stitch Socks for Babies

Introducing Baby Socks for 6 months - 1 year old. Socks have always intimidated me due to slip stitching joining. I really dislike seeing my join lines. With using yarn like Red Heart's Heart & Sole Yarn, I really want the colours to revolve without a slip stitch ruining the look.

This pattern took me 5 hours to develop and 8 tries to get it right. Using research from the Yarn Council of America in telling me the baby foot size dimensions, I used the dimensions to aim for when designing these socks.

With this pattern having no slip stitching between the rounds, I think crocheters are going to be highly successful. The trick to my pattern is to ensure you have two stitch markers that are different colours. As long as you can move the stitch markers when you move the rows, you will be successful each time.

Video Tutorial to match this pattern will be included. (Pattern is available now... video will be completed shortly)

Baby Peapod Sundress, Crochet Pattern

Available in 4 Sizes

This super adorable baby dress comes in 4 sizes. Pattern includes 6, 12, 18 and 24 months' instructions. I have found the instructions super easy to follow without any difficulties. The pattern is for beginners and beyond. Don't let the pattern instructions intimidate you. There are many paragraphs on this instruction that only apply to certain sizes. When you narrow down your instructions to the size you want, you will quickly realize that many instruction lines aren't even used.

I used Baby Soft Steps by Red Heart for my version. I changed the colours and added lines of colour where the pattern is meant to be a solid colour dress with the hem area being a different colour. I would strongly encourage you to play with colours to make it unique to you.

Be cautious of the straps. If you have a little youngster jumping about. You may want to review where the straps should go or do the straps separately and attach them afterwards.

Don't be afraid to adjust the length of this dress. If you want to make it longer, just do it.

In the video tutorial, I demonstrate the 6 month version but give help on all other sizes to be able to follow the instructions. Once you see how we are growing the baby sweater, venturing on your own for the 12, 18 and 24 month sizes are a breeze.

You can use Red Heart Soft Baby Steps, Red Heart Gumdrop or even James C Brett's Baby Marble. Either way, you will have an amazing dress.

Vibrant Baby Wear

This super adorable baby baby dress comes in 4 sizes. Pattern includes 6, 12, 18 and 24 months' instructions. I have found the instructions super easy to follow without any difficulties. Don't let the pattern instructions intimidate you. There are many paragraphs on this instruction that only apply to certain sizes. When you narrow down your instructions to the size you want, you will quickly realize that many instruction lines aren't even used.

The yarn is Red Heart Gumdrop. Designed for baby. You will need a minimum of 2 balls to complete this pattern. Though the pattern says you may only use 1 ball for the 6 months, I found I used 1 ball and a small amount of another to make this.

Don't be afraid to adjust the lenght of this dress. If you want to make it longer, wait for the 2nd half of the skirt instructions where the V-Stitch is larger. Then make your skirt longer on this level before doing the final edging at the bottom.

In the video tutorial, I demonstrate the 6 month version but give help on all other sizes to be able to follow the instructions. Once you see how we are growing the baby sweater, venturing on your own for the 9, 12 and 18 month sizes are a breeze.

You can use Red Heart Soft Baby Steps, Red Heart Gumdrop or even James C Brett's Baby Marble. Either way, you will have an amazing dress.

Baby Flower Petal Sweater Pattern & Video Tutorial

An Afternoon Project

This super adorable baby sweater comes in 4 sizes. Pattern includes 6, 9, 12 & 18 months instructions. I have found the instructions super easy to follow without any difficulties. I think the hardest thing about this sweater is deciding the colours for this.

The yarn is Anne Geddes by Red Heart Yarns. The colour in the sample thumbnail is Lily (white) and Rocking Horse for the main body. You will see in the pattern that the colours are vibrant and really incredible. In the video tutorial, I used Anne Geddes as well, colours are Lily for the collar and trim work and Robin for the main body.

In the video tutorial, I demonstrate the 6 month version but give help on all other sizes to be able to follow the instructions. Once you see how we are growing the baby sweater, venturing on your own for the 9, 12 and 18 month sizes are a breeze.

Cool Breeze Baby Afghan

Cool Breeze Baby Afghan Pattern

Crochet this amazing baby blanket called the Cool Breeze Baby Afghan. This is using the Soft Baby Steps yarn by Red Heart and is incredibly soft. It measures 38" x 42" and is really quick to make. Feel free to substitute your yarns with America's favourite yarns like Red Heart Super Saver or equivalent.

I had a hard time deciding which of the colours I wanted for my afghan, so I decided to put many of them into the afghan. This makes the baby blanket to be highly adorable plus unisex too!

In this pattern, you will notice that I did 1 Fan Line, 1 DC Line and then 1 Fan Line with each section of colours. The white lines are the DC lines in between the fans. I think it's the white that really makes this blanket fabulous. I used less than 1 ball for each colour depicted in this afghan.

The free instructions are available at Cool Breeze Baby Afghan by Red Heart.
