The average length of a new born baby is about 20" long. This cocoon is 20" from the top to bottom. If you wanted a preemie size, you can stop earlier. I will give you dimensions below for those who would like a shorter version.

1 Hour Project

This project whips up really quick due to the automatic loom knitting machine.

Instructions:

  1. Using the entire loom in a continuous round. No stopper is needed.
  2. Set the Addi Express LEVER on side to Circular Knitting.
  3. Cast on with Bernat Baby Coordinates Yarn.
  4. Crank 30 revolutions and stop.

See how I put the bottom onto the pegs?         Cranked the remainder to the size I wanted.
  1. Create your permanent brim but placing the bottom edge onto the pegs. Take your time. Not all pegs will get anything as it's not possible to stretch the material around the entire circle. Place the bottom of the material onto the following pegs only, knit slowly as you place each part of the bottom onto the peg. Pegs to have bottom material will be 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 & 43. I've done this so I know the brim will be even and partially secured when done.
Decide the Size You Want - 3 Sizes To Choose
  1. For the original size, knit 90 revolutions = 20" Long Cocoon.
  2. For Extra Small Preemie Size, Knit only 50 revolutions = 12" Long Cocoon.
  3. For Small Preemie Size, Knit only 70 revolutions = 16" Long Cocoon.
Bind Off
  1. Bind Off by gathering stitches with your darning needle. Pull string so all all loops gather for a perfect finish.
  2. Sew bottom shut, then sew remainding brim into place. When sewing the brim, ensure to not go through the entire project, just grab the back loops of the stitches only so the brim sew seam is invisible.

Bind off using darning needle to gather stitches.         Once gathered, pull shut.

Sew Bottom Shut.          Sew remaining brim into place.
Hope the baby who gets to use this is nice and cozy.
