The Ultimate Summer Hat

This Beanie was designed for men or women. Change the colour to suit your own personal style. The pattern is for only this type of Bernat Mosaic Yarn. Due to the properties of this yarn, creating this same design using value yarns will produce an excessively big crochet hat and will not work.

Materials Needed:

Size I or 5.0 MM Crochet Hook
1 Ball of 3.5 oz or 100 g Bernat Mosaic - Colour used was Psychedelic
1 Ball of Red Heart With Love or Bernat Super Saver for brim.

DC = Double Crochet, SL ST = Slip Stitch, BEG = Beginning,

Instructions for Body of Hat

Chain 3 then in the 1st Chain DC 12 Times to form circle. Join with a SL ST

FROM THIS POINT, you will crochet in the backloops only for the remaining of the body of that hat.

R1: Place stitch marker in to know when you have gone all the way around. 2 SC into the back loop of the first stitch, then 2 DC into the back loops each stitch until you run back into the stitch marker. We will work in a continuous circle so there is no slip stitching that will appear in your beanie.

R2: *1 DC into next stitch, then 2 DC into the next, Repeat from * all the way around.

R3: *1 DC into the next 2 stitches, then 2 DC into the next, Repeat from * all the way around.

R4: * 1 DC into the next 3 stitches, then 2 DC into the next, Repeat from * all the way around.

R5: *1 DC into the next 4 stitches, then 2 DC into the next. Repeat from * all the way around.

R6 - 14: 1 DC into each.

Finish: Off with 2 SC in a row, then 2 SL ST. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Brim Instructions

We will be doing regular Double Crochet for the brim.

Fasten on Red Heart With Love or Bernat Super Saver Yarn at the same spot you fastened off the body of the hat.
Ch 2, 1 DC into the next 3 stitches, next stitch gets 2 DC, *1 DC into the next 4 stitches, then 2 DC into the next stitch, repeat from * all the way around. At end of round, Join with a SL ST to the top of the chain 2.
Ch 2, 1 DC into the next 4 stitches, next stitch gets 2 DC, * 1 DC into the next 5 stitches, then 2 DC into the next stitch, repeat from * all the way around. At end of round, Join with a SL ST to the top of the chain 2.
CH 2, 1 DC into the next 5 stitches, next stitch gets 2 DC, * 1 DC into the next 6 stitches, then 2 DC into the next stitch, repeat from * all the way around. At end of round, Join with a SL ST to the top of chain 2.
CH 2, 1 DC into the next 6 stitches, next stitch gets 2 DC, * 1 DC into the next 7 stitches, then 2 DC into the next stitch, repeat from * all the way around. At end of round, Join with a SL ST to the top of chain 2.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Flower Motif

This flower is the same flower that appears on my Mermaid Tears Purse Video Tutorial. Bernat® Designers created this flower motif. Pattern below is a direct insert from the Bernat Mermaid Tears Pattern. The flower is so brilliant.

1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st in fi rst sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. Working in front loops only, 1 sc in fi rst sc. (1 hdc. 2 dc. 1 hdc) in next sc. *1 sc in next sc. (1 hdc. 2 dc. 1 hdc) in next sc. Rep from * once more. Do not join with sl st. 3 petals.
3rd rnd: Do not ch 1. Working in rem back loops of 1st rnd, 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to fi rst sc. 12 sc.
